Meet our board

rachel Rachel Sheinbein, President 

Rachel Sheinbein joined CMEA Capital in 2008 and is a Senior Associate with the Energy and Materials team. Before CMEA, Rachel was a consultant for start-ups in the areas of bio-plastics, solar and water treatment.

For 9 years prior to consulting, Rachel worked in several positions at Intel Corporation – as a Chemical Engineer for industrial liquid waste and wastewater systems, a Program Manager for Environmental Health & Safety, focusing on metrics and new technology, a Purchasing Analyst, and a Strategic Product Manager for Supply Chain IT.

She also is an angel investor, focusing on clean technology, and co-chairs the Keiretsu Forum angel’s WISE (Women Investing in and Supporting Entrepreneurs) group. In addition, Rachel volunteers in various roles for California Clean Tech Open – a business-plan competition that encourages the development of clean technology companies. Rachel holds a Chemical Engineering degree with a concentration in Environmental Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Rachel was also a sponsored fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where she received an MBA and a Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a focus on operations and supply chain.

She has been in involved with the EYH Network since the late 70’s, is on the planning committee of the SF-EYH, and frequently presents a workshop for parents and teachers at that conference.


Sheryl Bize-Boutte, Vice President of Board Development and Strategic Planning 

Sheryl J. Bize-Boutte is the owner of Bize-Boutte Organizational Solutions, a company that focuses on providing solutions to organizational issues in planning, performance measurement, customer advocacy, and process improvement.

During 2007 to 2009, Sheryl served as Interim Director of Alumnae Relations and as a member of the Women’s Leadership Institute Advisory Board for Mills College.

In December 2005, Sheryl was appointed by the Alumnae Association of Mills College (AAMC) Board of Governors as the Executive Director of the AAMC. With this selection she became the first woman of color to hold the position of AAMC Executive Director in the 127-year history of the organization.

Before returning to Mills, Sheryl had a long career in management at the U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA).

In her most recent capacity at DOE/NNSA, she was the Deputy Associate Director for Federal Services where she directed a staff engaged in oversight of the federal research and development contracts for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. This position also included the management and oversight of all Oakland Office functions in human resources, contract management, environment, safety and health, and finance and budget. She was also responsible for the management and direction of 120 federal and 200 support services contractor employees engaged in implementation of Security and Information Technology functions for the field component of the agency with a budget of $27 million.

Previous DOE/NNSA positions included Director of Human Resources, Deputy Chief of Staff, Director of the Grants Center, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Chief of Organization and Management, Contracting Officer for the Leland Stanford Jr. University contract, and Site Manager for the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Site Office.

She received the Secretary of Energy’s Gold Award in 1997 for her work in quality management and customer service. She is a former officer of the AAMC Board of Governors and member of the AAMC Human Resources committee. She is also a member of the National Association of Professional Women, AAMC Nominating Committee, and a past member of the San Francisco Bay Area Federal Executive Board Policy Committee.

Sheryl resides in Oakland with her husband, Anthony. They have a daughter, Angela, a postdoctoral research fellow in molecular neuroscience at Vanderbilt University.


Tania Madfes, Treasurer 

Dr. Tania Madfes has a long history in the field of mathematics education: as a teacher at the high school and university levels, as coordinator of mathematics for the San Francisco Unified School District, as a teacher educator and as a researcher. She is the author of several programs focused on the professional development of teachers of mathematics and the editor of three books that deal with issues in professional development.

Prior to retirement, Tania directed teacher professional development, curriculum development, and evaluation projects focused on mathematics and science at WestEd, a not-for-profit educational research, development, and service organization. Her doctorate is in curriculum and instructional design. In 1980, she began her EYH involvement, which included five years as Coordinator of the San Francisco EYH Conference.


Aileen DeSoto, Secretary 

Aileen DeSoto was formerly a Vice President of Product Development at Linkify. She has fifteen years experience in consulting, project management, marketing, sales, and team building and has worked at several different companies.

Aileen graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and has done graduate work in marketing.

Through her affiliations with the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay and the East Bay Association for Women in Science, she has worked on various programs involving issues surrounding Children at Risk and projects promoting math and science to girls.

Recently Aileen graduated from a masters program at the University of California, Berkeley with a Masters in Project Management within the biomedical field. Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her two sons, Mitchell and Conner. She also enjoys hiking, golfing and traveling.


Susan Brown 

Susan L. Brown has over 20 years experience in creating and implementing strategies to drive market share and branding for new technologies and web-based products, with a specialty in healthcare and bio/pharma technology.

Her consulting career includes long-term assignments with Apple Computer, Intel, Sun Microsystems, as well as developing a Communications Plan for a $350M division of Cisco Systems. As Director of Marketing and Strategic Alliances for HealthCenter Internet Services, Susan created global marketing and communications strategy as well as successful strategic alliances and partnerships with organizations such as the American Heart Association.

Her Healthcare IT experience includes leading a team to launch and train physicians and staff in HealthConnect, a $6B business process change to electronic clinical applications for Kaiser Permanente and as CMO for KDH Systems, Inc., a networking and clinical trial automation software company. Susan holds a BS from Northwestern University. She pursued graduate studies at UC Berkeley and Stanford University. She joined the EYH Board in 2006 with the mission to help brand and market the organization.


Alpana Alpana Prabhu 

Alpana Prabhu is a Director currently working with Symantec in the area of Business Transformation Operations. She has over 20 years experience encompassing organization design, team incubation & management, program management including analysis, design, delivery, enablement & operations, enterprise systems integrations & implementations in global & diverse work environments. Her industry experience spans High Tech, M&As, Healthcare, Government, Finance, Insurance and currently, Business Transformation. She has consulted with UNICEF, Copenhagen and high tech firms SUN Microsystems, VERITAS, CISCO in their Business and IT areas by identifying, shaping and bridging business needs with technology.

Alpana has conducted training sessions in Strategic Networking and served as a mentor for the Symantec Womens’ Action Network (SWAN). She has also served as a co-chair for the Event Program Booklet committee for the Cupertino Lunar New Year Unity Parade, and as Entertainment Chair for the Bay Area Konkani Association. Her article on Leadership and Project Management was published by DevX.com.

Alpana holds a BS from the Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics and a Post Graduate diploma in Computer Science & Management. She joined the EYH Board in 2010 as her personal goals align with EYH’s mission & goals – motivate girls to become innovative and creative thinkers ready to meet 21st Century challenges.

Ms. Prabhu enjoys her work, reading diverse topics, organizing events that include friends and family and conversing with people from diverse backgrounds to see the world through their eyes. She resides in Cupertino, CA with her husband and son.


shannon Shannon Madison 

Shannon Madison is an Instructional Designer at Google, responsible for the Developer Qualification program. Shannon began her career as a Software Engineer with Apple Computer but later moved into Product Management and then Instructional Design. Shannon has developed learning programs in a diversity of technical fields, including CAD/CAM, Semiconductors, Relational Database Management, NAS/SAN Storage, Software Design, Networking and Internet industries. She currently devotes 20% of her time at Google towards Intergroups, Authors@Google, and K-12 Diversity Initiatives, including her work with The Girls’ Middle School, Techbridge, Citizen Schools, Girl Scouts, Expanding Your Horizons and many other outreach organizations. She serves on the advisory board for Engineer Your Life, a project for high school girls and the adults in their lives (parents, counselors, teachers, and other educators) who want to learn more about what life and work are like for engineers. Shannon holds a B.Sc. in Computer and Electrical Engineering, a B.A. in Philosophy, and a M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering.

Betsey is a Biotechnology Marketing and Product Management Professional at Genentech and is new one of our newest Board members.

Stacey Roberts-Ohr, Executive Director 

Stacey Roberts-Ohr came to the Expanding Your Horizons Network in May of 2002. Before coming to EYHN, Stacey was employed as the Coordinator of Field Experience in the Department of Elementary Education at San Francisco University. Stacey holds two Masters degrees, one in Jewish communal service from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and the other in social work from the University of Southern California. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Community services from Michigan State University. In Stacey’s free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, watching documentary films and spending time with her husband, Andrew.
